When: Sunday, February 19
Where: Event location coming soon.
Cost: $25. Proceeds go towards the Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center (HPAC). If cost is a barrier to attending, please contact us at info@revelak.com
Registration: Register here.
What to expect: This event is a discussion on the identification of avalanche terrain and snow-related hazards when recreating during the winter. It is ideal for snowshoers, cross country skiers, winter hikers and folks who are not necessarily interested in adventuring in avalanche terrain, but wish to identify appropriate areas to recreate based on their skill set. This event is not formal avalanche training. We will be winter hiking (or snowshoeing depending on conditions) with the potential for moderate elevation gain. Maximum 12 participants.
What to bring: Bring warm layers, a headlamp, water and snacks as desired.
A couple other notes: If you need help arranging snowshoe rental or would like to carpool to the trailhead, please contact us.
About HPAC: Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center (HPAC) is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides avalanche safety information in Hatcher Pass. Since 2010, they have provided professional grade avalanche forecasts, information, and advisories to assist and educate the general public in avoiding avalanches. HPAC also provides avalanche awareness classes for public high school students in the Mat-Su valley and collaborates with local organizations to offer a free rescue workshop seasonally in Hatcher Pass.
