What to expect: Forest bathing, the art of being calm and quiet in nature, is a Japanese practice also known as shinrin yoku. This method of observing nature is said to help reduce stress and help calm the nervous system. Participants can expect to walk up to 2 miles. Maxine will facilitate various forest bath stations including hammocks, nature journaling, a water station and more.
About Maxine: Maxine Franklin, an Alaska Native Naturalist, has degrees in biology and dental hygiene. She's worked seasonally for both National and Alaska State Parks. Her lifelong interest in asian cultures led her to study the Japanese art of shinrin yoku (forest bathing). She has developed a simple forest immersion program to introduce others to its beneficial effects on physical and psychological health and well-being.
