Workshop Summary: In this workshop, participants will learn and explore Alaska’s natural resources and why people from all over the Lower 48 flocked to this northern state to be a part of the mining boom, among other natural resource industries. Participants will learn about the importance of Alaska’s natural resources and most importantly, how to conserve and protect them. This interpretive and history-based workshop will be held at Independence Mine and will include an educational hike and hands-on activities.

Are parents/guardians required to attend? Yes. At this time our program requires a parent or guardian to be present during youth workshops. Parents are welcome to use the workshop time to socialize amongst themselves.

About Dylan: Dylan, who originally hails from New England, has been working, studying and living in Alaska for 2 years now. She is currently a graduate student studying outdoor and environmental education at Alaska Pacific University as well as an outdoor science school teacher at the Kellogg F.I.E.L.D School on Alaska Pacific University's Palmer campus. After graduating with her undergraduate degree from Emerson College in Boston, MA in 2014, Dylan became a public school teacher for three years before transitioning into the world of outdoor education and recreation. She has worked with students from preschool age to college-age and is excited to be facilitating and implementing youth programming for Revel this summer! In her free time, she can most likely be found in nature doing something fun, listening to podcasts, or scheming her next adventure abroad.

What if the weather is bad?

Great question. We generally don’t cancel trips due to inclement weather. We bring gear for the elements and have plenty of extras if you need to borrow something. If there is concern for safety and we need to adjust the trip, we will reschedule and notify participants in a timely manner.

Do you offer scholarships or payment plans?

Yes and yes! Anyone can apply for a scholarship here. Additionally, if you’d like to set up a payment plan (for no additional fee) please reach out.
