When: Sunday, March 24
Where: We’ll meet at the Wendt Road trailhead to access the Moose Range trails at 1:30PM. Additional details provided upon registration. In the event snow conditions warrant a shift, our alternate location will be the ski trail at Archangel Road in Hatcher Pass.
Is registration required? Yes. This is a free event, but in order to maintain our small group size we ask that you register in advance.
About the ski: We’ll ski 2-4 miles along flat rolling terrain at a leisurely pace. Following our loop we will enjoy hot chocolate and tea at the main parking area.
About the Mat-Su Ski Club: The Mat-Su Ski Club promotes Nordic Skiing in the southern Mat-Su Valley, Alaska for fun, community, and health.
The Ski Club grooms ski trails at Government Peak Recreation Area, the Moose Range, Archangel Road, and Independence Mine. They host community ski races, and more competitive races; as well as the annual Mat-Su Ski for Women. They offer educational clinics and adult ski lessons. Hundreds of kids are learning to ski every winter in their Junior Nordic program. The club organizes and leads community ski get-togethers and an annual overnight ski trip to a remote hut or cabin. They work with other ski organizations, such as local high schools, when they race at the venues we maintain. The Club has and can host FIS-sanctioned Nordic races at GPRA. They host the annual Government Peak Hill Climb, a component of the summertime Alaska Mountain Runners race calendar. Finally, they organize volunteers, raise funds, do trail work, pursue grants, manage projects, and work with public and private agencies and organizations to build new ski trails and facilities, and to maintain the trails year-round.
About the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation (MSTPF): Since 2014, your local trails and parks resource -the MSTPF- has awarded over $2.3 million in grants to local organizations. These grants have facilitated trail-building, trails and parks maintenance and related infrastructure investments in the Mat-Su Borough. Both motorized and non-motorized trail users have benefitted from MSTPF investments.

What is the winter sampler series? The Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation is sponsoring four winter sampler events this winter. Each event is designed to highlight a different trail, user group, or winter recreational activity. These free, small group events will connect you to outdoor resources in our area.
