3 activities to do outside in Palmer, Alaska during the winter
Winter is Alaska’s longest season, but the cold, dark days can be a bit overwhelming. We’ve put together a few of our favorite things to do in Palmer, Alaska during the winter season.
Lazy Mountain - Winter Hiking
Lazy Mountain is a beautiful, but challenging winter climb for hikers. Climb 1,700’ for a rewarding and scenic view of the Palmer area and surrounding mountains or head for a summit attempt (about 3,000’) if you’re feeling more ambitious. While not a busy winter trail there is usually enough traffic to maintain a snow-packed trail from trailhead to summit. Ice cleats are recommended.
The Butte - a classic Palmer hike
The Butte is probably Palmer, Alaska’s most iconic, family-friendly hike. The 800 foot climb to the summit is worth the effort. Stunning views of the surrounding mountains await.
