An Introduction to Curling
Many people have heard of curling but don’t know much about it. In this post, we give you a brief introduction to the history, gameplay, and where to curl in Alaska.
Lazy Mountain - Winter Hiking
Lazy Mountain is a beautiful, but challenging winter climb for hikers. Climb 1,700’ for a rewarding and scenic view of the Palmer area and surrounding mountains or head for a summit attempt (about 3,000’) if you’re feeling more ambitious. While not a busy winter trail there is usually enough traffic to maintain a snow-packed trail from trailhead to summit. Ice cleats are recommended.
Matanuska River Park: A winter wonderland
The Matanuska River Park might be downtown Palmer’s best trail system. During the winter months - soft light, frozen gravel bars, and mountain alpenglow offer a glimpse into Alaska wilderness.
The Butte - a classic Palmer hike
The Butte is probably Palmer, Alaska’s most iconic, family-friendly hike. The 800 foot climb to the summit is worth the effort. Stunning views of the surrounding mountains await.
