Hike and Learn: Edible Berries with naturalist Ute Olsson

When: Wednesday August 16 - event starts at 6PM

Where: We’ll meet at Government Peak Recreation Area

What to expect: We’ll be walking/hiking for about 2 hours. Please note we will not be harvesting while on the trail. This is a discussion about edible plants/berries and how to forage sustainably.

Workshop description: Berries are ripening, but which are safe to eat?  Learn to identify berries and other wild edible plants, and how to tell them apart from plants that are not safe. Take a walk in the woods with naturalist emerita, Ute Olsson, for an introduction into what's edible, and what's not! Group Size: No more than 10 learners total

Cost: $35 per person

Can I bring my pup? No. We ask you leave your furry friends at home for this event. We’ve got other pet-friendly events on the calendar though.

What is the weather is bad? We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please make sure your child has gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.

A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the schedule as outlined, but trail conditions, wildlife, etc. can all impact our plans. Please know if we need to shift plans your workshop coordinator will communicate with you in a timely manner. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgement when making trip adjustments.

About Ute: Ute Riesenkönig Olsson received a Master of Forestry from Duke University and a Master of Science in Ecological Studies from Colorado State University. She taught natural history to all ages at the Eagle River Nature Center for two decades before her retirement.
