Where: We’ll meet the Government Peak Recreation Area parking lot
What to expect: We’ll be walking/hiking for about 1 hour.
Class description: Join plant nerd Ute Olsson for a 1-hour foray to look for plants you might be interested in harvesting. Learn how to identify plants correctly, tell them apart from look-a-likes, where and when they grow, and discuss foraging etiquette.
Please note that we will only be collecting a few samples, not harvesting as a group during our walkabout.
This bi-weekly walk repeats throughout the growing season at Government Peak Recreation Area.

Can I bring my pup? No. We ask you that leave your furry friends at home for this event. We’ve got other pet-friendly events on the calendar though.
About Ute: Ute Riesenkönig Olsson received a Master of Forestry from Duke University and a Master of Science in Ecological Studies from Colorado State University. She taught natural history to all ages at the Eagle River Nature Center for two decades before her retirement. What if the weather is bad? We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please make sure your child has gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.
A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the schedule as outlined, but trail conditions, wildlife, etc. can all impact our plans. Please know if we need to shift plans your workshop coordinator will communicate with you in a timely manner. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgement when making trip adjustments.
