Ladies Night Out(doors): September Gold Cord Lake

  • Gold Cord Lake Fishhook, AK, 99645 United States (map)

When: Thursday, September 12

Time: 5:30pm-8:00pm

*This event normally repeats monthly on the first Thursday but will be on the second Thursday in September due to a community backpacking trip that Revel is hosting.

Where: Gold Cord Lake (in the Independence Mine Area). We will meet in the lower parking lot and then walk up the road to the trailhead.

Event fees:

  • Adventure Club members may attend this event as part of their 1 or 2 free, monthly events. Learn about the club here.

  • First-time attendees may attend this event for free. When you register please select “first-timer”.

  • All others guests, $12 to join this monthly event. If you are interested in a scholarship, please complete our short form here.

About the walk and what to expect:  Gold Cord is a 1.5 mile out and back trail with about 500 feet of elevation gain (less than the Butte if you've hiked that before and want a reference). Trail conditions here start gradually ascending upward through a glacial valley before hitting a steeper, slightly rocky incline. Once at the lake we'll hang out and relax for a bit before making our descent. We will walk about a mile up the road from the parking lot before we reach the trailhead so that we don’t get locked in when the gate closes at 6pm. Total distance will be about 3.5 miles.

Parking: Please note participants are responsible for paying relevant parking fees. Parking is $5 unless you have an Alaska State Park pass. We will meet in the lower parking lot at the sign by the restrooms and walk up the road because the gate will close at 6pm.

Can I bring my pup? No. For this particular event we ask folks to leave pups behind. Thanks for understanding!

What to bring:

  • Comfortable trail shoes or hiking boots

  • Small daypack

  • Warm layers

  • Rain gear (we recommend carrying both a rain jacket and rain pants if you have them)

  • Water and snacks as desired

A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the itinerary as outlined, but we may need to shift plans for a variety of reasons. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgment when making trip adjustments.

If you need help finding the trailhead or want to contact Revel prior to the event, please contact the team at 907-903-1664.

Trip minimums: We require a minimum of 2 registered participants to run our community trips. In the event we do not meet our trip minimum your guide will call you the evening prior to our trip departure. In the event we need to cancel a scheduled event due to low sign ups, participants will receive a full refund or credit towards a future event.

Weather: We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please bring gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.

Does Revel host free community hikes? Yes! We offer quarterly, free community hikes. We also have free events that have been made possible through sponsorships. Be sure to check our events page for our most current offerings.
