Registration required. There is no cost to join us, but we do ask you sign up so we don’t leave any stragglers behind at the trailhead!
When: Thursday, June 20 at 6PM. We anticipate it will take our group 3-4 hours to complete the hike.
Where: We’ll meet at Sherrod Elementary School and head to the Rail Trail from this parking lot.
What to expect: We’ll be hiking at a leisurely pace for about 7 miles along an old railroad bed. The hike will remain in boreal forest, but with opportunities to enjoy scenic views of the Matanuska River and surrounding mountains. The trail has rolling hills, but does traverse some eroded and washed out sections of trail. We will move slowly along these portions, making sure everyone feels comfortable. Once at Moose Creek, we will carpool back to Palmer.
We'll hike at a leisurely pace, stopping for breaks along the way.
Can I bring my pup? No. We ask you leave pups behind for this event, thanks for understanding.
Cost: This is a free community event.
A couple other notes: If you need help finding the trailhead or want to contact Revel prior to the event, please contact the team at 907-903-1664.
What to bring:
Bring warm layers
Bring comfortable boots or shoes to walk in
Rain gear (as necessary)
Water and snacks as desired
A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the itinerary as outlined, but we may need to shift plans for a variety of reasons. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgment when making trip adjustments.
Weather: We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please bring gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.
