Hike and Learn: Mushroom ID for People who are Bad at Mushroom ID

When: Tuesday, September 13 - event starts at 6PM

Where: We’ll meet at the Crevasse-Moraine trailhead pavilion off of N Loma Prieta Dr., Palmer, AK 99645

What to expect: We’ll be walking/hiking for about 2 hours.

Event description: Join aspiring amateur mycology enthusiast and Eagle River Nature Center chief-naturalist Samantha Blumenkönig for a short fungal foray (at the Crevasse Moraine Trail Head). We’ll practice the very basics of how to identify mushrooms and confidently identify a few common Alaskan mushrooms. This course is ideal for adults and teens accompanied by an adult who are just beginning to be curious about fungi. This event is free for the community. If guests are financially able, we ask you to consider making a donation to the Korohusk Memorial Cabin fund.

About Samantha: Samantha Blumenkönig (Blue-men-ker-nig) has worked at the Eagle River Nature Center since the spring of 2016 and has lived in Alaska since 2013. She lives just outside of Palmer with her husband, dog, two cats, and gaggle of unruly poultry. Samantha graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a degree in Wildlife Management and a passion for outdoor and environmental education. Samantha's special interests include parasites, mushrooms, and anything that makes you go "ew!"
