  • Matanuska River Park 925 East Arctic Avenue Palmer, AK, 99645 United States (map)

When: Wednesday, June 28 from noon to 2pm.

Where: Matanuska River Park (pavilion area by the campground)

Ideal Ages: This program is best suited for children ages 6 to 10 years old

Group Size: No more than 10 total (young adventurers)

Workshop Summary: In this workshop, kids will learn the basics of plant identification. We will learn basic differences between flora that may look alike, what plants are edible, what plants are not, and the basics behind how to identify plants as you enjoy the outdoors. Kids will engage in various activities that will encourage their curiosities of Alaskan plant life.

Beyond plant life, kids will be introduced to the various ecosystems (big and small) that exist in Alaska and explore how plants fit into those ecosystems. This workshop also includes a guided interpretative hike.

Are parents/guardians required to attend? Yes. At this time our program requires a parent or guardian to be present during youth workshops.

About Dylan: Dylan, who originally hails from New England, has been working, studying and living in Alaska for 2 years now. She is currently a graduate student studying outdoor and environmental education at Alaska Pacific University as well as an outdoor science school teacher at the Kellogg F.I.E.L.D School on Alaska Pacific University's Palmer campus. After graduating with her undergraduate degree from Emerson College in Boston, MA in 2014, Dylan became a public school teacher for three years before transitioning into the world of outdoor education and recreation. She has worked with students from preschool age to college-age and is excited to be facilitating and implementing youth programming for Revel this summer!
