When: Saturday, February 17

Where: We’ll meet at the Settlers Bay Coastal Trails at 1PM. Additional details provided upon registration.

To access the South Parking Lot, continue on Settlers Bay Drive south, then east to the terminus of the road which leads through a gate into the parking area; approximately 2 miles.

Is registration required? Yes. This is a free event, but in order to maintain our small group size we ask that you register in advance.

About the walk: We’ll walk no more than 3 miles total along rolling terrain at a leisurely pace. Following our loop we will enjoy hot chocolate and tea at the main parking area.

The trails at Settlers Bay Coastal Park are part of 295 acres of land that were donated to the Mat Su Borough by the Greatland Trust as a conservation easement.  The first formal trails started to be built in the summer 2019 with more trails being added over the next few years.  The long term plan calls for easy gravel paths, mountain bike single track, and Americans with Disabilities Act compliant trails.  The borough grooms these trails during the winter as snow conditions allow.

About Knik Tribe: Knik Tribe is the Oldest Village in Cook Inlet, a Sovereign Tribal Government in the Upper Inlet, federally recognized in 1989. Knik Tribeserves 5,000 Alaska Natives/American Indians in the Mat-Su Borough. They raise all boats in our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods.

About the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation (MSTPF): Since 2014, your local trails and parks resource -the MSTPF- has awarded over $2.3 million in grants to local organizations. These grants have facilitated trail-building, trails and parks maintenance and related infrastructure investments in the Mat-Su Borough. Both motorized and non-motorized trail users have benefitted from MSTPF investments.

What is the winter sampler series? The Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation is sponsoring four winter sampler events this winter. Each event is designed to highlight a different trail, user group, or winter recreational activity. These free, small group events will connect you to outdoor resources in our area.
