Event FULL, waitlist only: Gifts from the Boreal Kitchen: A maker workshop with Ute

  • Blumenkonig Studio (map)

About the class: Join Ute Olsson of Borealkraut for an afternoon of making gifts using boreal herbs and common kitchen ingredients. Learn the principles of making infusions, salves and tinctures, followed by the hands-on portion of the workshop. Choose from a variety of culinary and body products to make and take home (details below).

All workshop material is provided in the course fees. Please bring small jars if you have them.

Please note that while we will be making things using items from the boreal forest, the course does not go into details about harvesting plants other than cottonwood buds. We offer foraging classes during the summer season, so be sure to join our mailing list for plant identification & foraging classes.

Group Size: No more than 10 learners total

What to expect: This is a 2-part, hands-on workshop.

  • Part 1: Classroom/lecture session: During the first 30 minutes we'll spend time outlining how to make infusions, salves and tinctures.

  • Part 2: Hands-on/maker session: During the second part of the course we'll work through a variety of gift stations. You'll bring home at least 3 different salves, a honey infusion, and a tincture using vinegar (and/or start another tincture to finish at home where you'll be adding your own alcohol or glycerin). Bonus: make soap & bath salts using essential oils of your choice.

What's included: All workshop materials and supplies

Cost: $55 per person
