About the event and what to expect:

Join Revel Treks and Tours and Adventure by True North for a combo community adventure - Hike, Paddle, and Pizza!

Join us for an evening adventure that blends scenic trails and tranquil waters in the heart of the Mat-Su Valley! This Hike & Paddle event at Matanuska Lakes State Recreation Area is the perfect way to experience the wild beauty of the Mat-Su on foot and by kayak.

We’ll start our journey with a guided hike through rolling forest trails, skirting glacially-carved lakes and soaking in views of the Chugach Mountains. Along the way, our guides will share insights into the area's natural history and local flora.

After the hike, we’ll trade boots for boats and launch into the calm waters of Matanuska Lake for a peaceful paddle. No previous kayaking experience is required—the TrueNorth team will provide basic instruction and all gear needed.

Whether you're looking to connect with nature, enjoy some light exercise, or just spend time with local adventurers, this outing is for you!

All gear is provided. Suitable for ages 10+, no experience necessary.

Parking: Please note that participants are responsible for paying relevant parking fees.

A couple other notes: If you need help finding the trailhead or want to contact Revel before the event, please contact the team at 907-903-1664.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots

  • Footwear that can get wet (for the boating portion of the trip)

  • Dry socks (to change into after the boating portion)

  • Comfortable attire (long hiking pants and a breathable shirt). No cotton or denim if possible, as it gets very heavy and cold when wet.

  • Small backpack

  • Additional layers (hat, gloves, light jacket)

  • Rain gear - If you have it, carrying both rain pants and a rain jacket is recommended

  • Water (1-2 liters recommended)

  • Light snacks

A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the itinerary as outlined, but we may need to shift plans for a variety of reasons. Safety is our priority, and we use our best judgment when making trip adjustments.

Trip minimums: We require a minimum of 2 registered participants to run our community adventures. If a scheduled event is canceled due to low sign-ups, participants will receive a full refund or credit towards a future event. Adventure Club members can receive a credit towards future Revel events.

Weather: We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please bring gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out.
