We’re dedicated to providing opportunities for our community to connect with Alaska. We offer guided hikes, courses, and educational opportunities for locals, year-round. For those who attend our events regularly or want to support the work we’re doing - our Adventure Club offers free activities, discounts, and priority registration. By joining the club, you’ll support local adventures, enjoy access to unique experiences, and help us make exploring Alaska more accessible to all.

Event Full: Waitlist only, Free Beginning Birder Walk: Sponsored by the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation
Join the Mat-Su Trail and Parks Foundation in collaboration with Revel Treks and Tours for our winter/spring sampler series. Each month, we’ll highlight a different trail or winter recreational activity. These free, small-group events will connect you to outdoor resources in our area.
THIS MONTH: A beginner birding walk. Learn the basics of birding while quietly strolling through the boreal forest!

Food Dehydration Class: with Samples!
Dehydrating your own food is an easy, fun, budget-friendly hobby. This intro class will cover everything from why you should try it, to tips for successful outcomes, to how to use what you’ve dehydrated on the trail or when traveling.

Inspired by locals, these events have become a staple Revel offering. If you’re looking to adventure with our “seasoned” community members, this is the event for you. We travel at a leisurely pace, enjoying the scenery along the way.

Short Course: Foraging 101
Many of our native plants are edible, and some have been used traditionally for medicine. Learn to identify them and how to tell them apart from plants that are not safe. Take a walk in the woods with naturalist emerita, Ute Olsson, for an introduction into what we can harvest and some foraging etiquette basics.

Edible and Medicinal Plant Identification Course (1.5 hours)
Join Ute Olsson for a 1.5-hour walk in the woods. This course is more detailed than our bi-weekly plant walks at Government Peak Recreation Area.
We'll review plant identification, discuss foraging etiquette, and traditional plant uses.

Devil’s Club Salve Making Course w/ optional Plant ID Walk
Join Ute Olsson of Borealkraut for a session on learning how to forage, harvest, and make devil’s club salve. Participants will take home 2-oz containers of devil’s club salve.
Hike, Paddle & Pizza: Community Adventure
🚶♂️ Hike Distance: ~2 miles, easy to moderate terrain
🛶 Paddle Time: ~1–1.5 hours on flat water
🎒 What to Bring: Water, snacks, layers, sturdy shoes, and a sense of adventure!

Join Revel in partnership with Now Health for this free community hike! We’ll be hiking Pioneer Peak Trail up to the first picnic table.
Botanical Silk Scarf Printing
Join Ute Olsson of Borealkraut for a workshop all about printing with plant material. Choose plain or a naturally-dyed background color, then arrange fresh leaves over silk to create your own one-of-a-kind silk scarf. While our silk bundles are being heat-processed, learn more about natural dyeing techniques, and how to identify local plants.

CANCELED - Salve Making: An outdoor workshop with Ute
Join Ute Olsson of Borealkraut for a session on learning how to forage, harvest and make cottonwood salve. Participants will take home 2 oz. containers of cottonwood salve.

Join Revel for our monthly snowshoe social. These events are beginner-friendly and welcome to all. We’ll review snowshoeing basics at the trailhead and then head out for a leisurely adventure.

Beginner Winter Fat Biking Clinic
Friday, Feb. 7 (6PM-8PM). During this indoor session at Backcountry Bike and Ski, we will go over what you need to get started and will help you get your bike set up with accessories. We will talk about how to dress and what to expect.
Saturday, Feb. 8 (11AM-1PM) we will hit the trails to identify and practice skills that will help you ride with confidence. We will apply the skills we learn as we ride some single-track trails. Location TBD and will be determined closer to our clinic date based on trail conditions.
POSTPONED: Cross Country Ski Social: Beginner Friendly
Join Revel for our monthly cross-country ski social. These events are beginner-friendly and welcome to all. We’ll review skiing basics at the trailhead and then head out for a leisurely adventure.

No snowshoes? No problem! You can easily add on gear rental when checking out. Rentals are available for $15 per pair.

Winter Speaker Series -Adaptive Winter Recreation: Fatbiking and Downhill Skiing
The Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation & Revel have joined forces to host monthly educational lectures/presentations November 2024 through April 2025. Each month features a different topic with the goal of connecting locals to different recreational opportunities.
In January: Trail enthusiasts Jim Beck (adaptive Fatbiker) and Michael Hanson (monoskier), will share the ins and outs of adaptive winter recreation.

Our growth + evolution
In 2024, we connected with over 1,000 locals through small group adventures, classes, and other community events. Our membership model will help us continue sustainably. Members help shape our future adventures, so if you have an idea, let us know—we’re excited to grow with your support.
Paying our staff a livable wage
Our team works year-round to provide quality, educational community outings; even a free, 2-hour hike takes 4-6 hours of staff effort to plan and guide. We’re committed to thoughtful, small-group hikes and ensure our professional guides earn a living wage for every trip, including free events.
Necessary permits
As a professional guide service, we’re permitted and insured to operate within Alaska State Parks, Mat-Su Borough Trails, and state land, which require annual permit fees and per-person use fees. A membership covers these individual fees for our community hikes.

Not at this time. We are exploring the best path forward for community adventures and educational opportunities and imagine this will continue to evolve. A nonprofit? Who knows what the future holds for equitable adventures. We continue to brainstorm, but have provided a mechanism for you to support our work in the meantime.

Of course. We invite anyone curious about our trips and courses to come check out a community hike for free.
When registering for your first event, simply select “first-time adventurer” and you won’t be charged.

Not at this time. If you are a couple or family interested a membership please contact us. We’re happy to get creative!

Month-to-Month Members:
You can cancel your membership anytime.
No refund for current month, but no charges for future months.
Annual Members:
You can cancel anytime.
Get a 50% refund for unused months at your monthly membership rate.
Example: If you cancel an annual Trailblazer membership ($108 annually) with two months left, you get a $9 refund.
Special Circumstances:
If a membership was purchased, used for a course discount, and then canceled, a service fee may be applied during cancellation processing.

In rare instances we may need to cancel a planned club event. We evaluate community hikes and course cancellations on a case-by-case basis. In most instances we will re-schedule as appropriate and communicate with registered participants in a timely manner.
