When: Friday, December 22 starting at 5pm
*Beginning in 2024 - this event will repeat monthly on the first Thursday*
Where: Government Peak Recreation Area, Pioneer Loop
About the walk and what to expect: We will be walking the Pioneer Loop Trail, the route for the Mat-Su Ski Club's Holiday Tree Tour. This multi-sport trail is used for walking, skiing, skijoring and cross country skiing. It is a lit trail with rolling hills, about 1.5 miles in length. We will walk at a leisurely pace, sticking together on the trail.
What is the Holiday Tree Tour? This annual Mat-Su Ski Club event brings together different trail users for a loop around the Pioneer Trail. In addition to the lit trail, walkers will be able to enjoy 10 lit Christmas Trees. Each year community businesses and organizations sponsor trees to support the ski club. Learn more about the ski club and tree tour here.
Can I bring my pup? No. For this particular event we ask folks to leave pups behind. Thanks for understanding! Please note since the Holiday Tree Tour is a public event, other attendees may be bringing dogs. We just ask that our crew is pupless.
Cost: Free. Please note participants are responsible for paying any relevant parking fees.
A couple other notes: If you need help finding the trailhead or want to contact Revel prior to the event, please contact the team at 907-903-1664.
What to bring:
Bring warm layers
Bring comfortable boots or shoes to walk in
Bring a headlamp (we have extras you can borrow if needed!)
Winter gear (hats, mittens, scarves)
Rain gear or snow gear (as necessary)
Water and snacks as desired.
A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the itinerary as outlined, but we may need to shift plans for a variety of reasons. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgment when making trip adjustments.
Weather: We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please bring gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.

About Ladies Night Out(doors): Explore a local trail/area in the company of women! We hope these events will bring together women who are new to hiking and adventuring (or new to the area) with women who have some experience with outdoor adventuring. If you’re a seasoned adventurer open to mentoring a newer hiker or a new hiker looking for an outdoor mentor - let us know :)
